Hospitals are often very reactive workplaces with a vast range of shared equipment distributed throughout the building. The purpose of the realtime location systems (RTLS) is to reduce operational frustration and cost through improved coordination. The main cost reductions are due to lower capital costs (through better equipment utilisation) and lower labor cost (through easy easy location of essential equipment). Better utilisation results in less equipment inventory for the same level of service to the patients.

Shared equipment types include: Infusion Pumps, Ventilators, Pulse Oximeters, Trollies, Stretchers, Telemetry Transmitters and wheel chairs etc.
